MAGA Nutty

100 Days In Office …
The first 100 days of Donald Trump’s second presidency are in the history books. For the effort, public opinion polls show the 47th president of the United States is the second least popular commander-in-chief in 80 years. The most unpopular president at 100 days into his term? Donald Trump the 45th president of the United States.
The White House contends that Mr. Trump’s first 100 days are the most consequential of any presidential administration. Arguably, Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s first 100 days during the Great Depression were the most consequential, given that his actions entailed significant law changes, not legally dubious executive actions.
But this is certain: Mr. Trump’s first 100 days were marked by significant domestic and international controversies, unnerving economic uncertainties, and troubling challenges to the United States Constitution and democratic norms, with tepid to no congressional oversight.
Like many Americans, Thomas has been anxiously watching – and we mean anxiously with much anxiety – how Mr. Trump would approach his second tour at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The successes, failures, and nuttiness have been on full display, making for what the former Apprentice host calls “good television.”
Here is our read on Trump 2.0 thus far:
“Mr. Trump’s first 100 days were marked by significant domestic and international controversies, unnerving economic uncertainties, and troubling challenges to the United States Constitution and democratic norms, with tepid to no congressional oversight.”
Successes
Led the complete Republican control of the White House, United States Senate, U.S. House of Representatives, and a majority of governorships and state houses
Issued some 140 Executive Orders bypassing congressional authority and approval on many of the issues addressed by those presidential dictates
Through DOGE (the Department of Governmental Efficiency) began reducing the size of the federal workforce with more than 280,000 early buyouts and terminations, including deconstructing the U.S. Department of Education, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and Voice of America, among others
Replaced key personnel with loyalists and began restructuring federal departments to align with his agenda
Reduced illegal immigration at the southern border with Mexico
Began a significant wave of illegal (and a few legal) immigrant deportations
Brought down the price of eggs
Started dismantling America’s diversity, equity, and inclusion requirements within the federal government and private sector organizations receiving federal financial support
Delivered on the “little bit of pain” he promised American pocketbooks with his economic policies
Withdrew from the World Health Organization
Failures
Making the economy more affordable for Americans
Ending the war in Ukraine on “day one” of his presidency
Protecting senior citizens’ benefits from a lifetime of labored earnings from planned GOP cuts to Social Security and Medicare
Pardoning the jury-convicted January 6th felons who violently attacked the United States Capitol to block the 2020 presidential election results
Getting that “big beautiful tax bill” through Congress
Being nowhere near the $1 trillion in government spending cuts promised by his DOGE initiative
The Nutty
An inaugural ceremony decorated by some of America’s most controversial oligarchs standing front-and-center on the transition rite from 46 to 47
Undermining constitutional norms developed as a nation over 250 years
Populating his Cabinet with sycophants who do not represent the “best and the brightest.”
Widespread dismissal of Inspectors General at various federal agencies
Imposed and then rescinded and then imposed again and then rescinded again a raft of inflation-stoking tariffs on American allies and foes alike
Stirred market uncertainty by threatening to fire the Federal Reserve chairman, thus undermining independent oversight of the American economy, which has been a hallmark of U.S. financial stability
Serving a third term as president despite the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution
Making Canada the 51st state
Taking control of Greenland
Threatening war over control of the Panama Canal
Attempted to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America
Proposed a tone-deaf “Riviera of the Middle East” redevelopment plan for Gaza that would be devoid of Palestinians
Allowing Elon Musk and his DOGE team to access tax, social security, and health records, putting Americans’ private data at unacceptable risk to both domestic and foreign bad actors
Took over the chairmanship of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts after having his namesake charitable organization legally disbanded because of nefarious activities
Blamed the Reagan Washington National Airport Army Blackhawk helicopter crash on DEI
Retribution targeting large law firms with adverse executive orders, allegedly for helping Trump critics
Sending criminal American citizens to El Salvador to serve their prison terms
Offered a $5 million green card to wealthy foreign citizens who are willing to buy their “legal” access to the United States
Ignoring the consequences of Signalgate
Curtailing white-collar criminal enforcement and deprioritizing internet crime and fraud
Attacked science-certified health protocols, ushering in an unfathomable rash of measles cases and other deadly maladies
Over blinging the Oval Office with gaudy gold gadgets, a sea of Rococo-framed mirrors, portraits that have overwhelmed the wallpaper, and trinkets galore
As a politically independent-focused publication, we must conclude that American greatness took a significant step backward in Mr. Trump’s first 100 days. Our reputation among allies is at risk. The remainder of 2025 will tell us volumes on what to expect in the impending elections of 2026.
